Success vs Dignity...Part 1

No doubt one of the hottest songs released this year (2010) Long Distance Stulla by Movado was added to the artiste's list of chart topping songs of his career. The reason for this article though is not to praise Movado, well, not for his accomplishments but for some other alleged talent. (of course to display some level of professionality i had to insert the word "alleged").

A line the aforementioned song states, "...man a long distance stulla, mi nuh feed pan bulla". Well a photo released recently of a male individual, who looks very much like Movado, enjoying a well short after meal. Implying that bulla is really not on Movado's plate.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but the man seen in the photograph sadly is not Movado.

I say sadly because it would be fun to have such a scandal circulating. I'm a fan of Movado- i dont listen to his music, i just chose his side during the whole gully vs gaza battle- however because of the stigma placed on the act of oral sex, which in Jamaica which is expressly displayed in the Dancehall music and society on a whole, it would be rather satifying to know that one of the offenders of these music, is hypocritical towards himself or herself.

Lets rewind a few months back. Lisa Hyper, gained even greater success when her name was used to discribe an action, Lisa Swiper meaning blowjob. During her scandal, to be truthful i felt sorry for her, it made my open dislike of Kartel even more prominent. Like Movado, i didnt really listen to songs by Lisa Hyper, however i was told that she was also a "bunna" of the whole oral sex argument. Then my opinion changed. I still greatly disliked Kartel but I started to ridicule Lisa Swiper. She deserved the backlash she received.

It now brings me to a conclusion that Dancehall artistes strive for success by betraying themselves. They sing songs that will, although disrespecting themselves, be accepted by the general public and so will earn them top positions in the industry of music. But what happens when all of that backfires? The photo released of Lisa performing oral sex immediately ended her 5minutes of semi-fame. This was not mainly because she was doing the act, but due to the fact that she sang against it.

With all that aside, its reassuring to note that Jamaicans are showing some signs of growth. Oral sex is not so much a taboo anymore, however some citizens may still give informal sanctions to persons who do it.

PS: I called this article part one because i felt it was too short, and the title itself deals with much for than just oral sex. So maybe, no promises, i will write a part 2 and so forth.

I think the picture of Lisa Hype turned out to be more of a positive than a negative for her. It didnt end anything for her.
